Note: The OBD2 adapter is the “communication bridge”. To reset the service light, you generally need the correct app per brand (BMW app for BMW, Triumph app for Triumph).

2) Correct adapter cable for each bike

Even if you use the same OBD2 adapter, you often need different adapter cables because the bikes may have different diagnostic connectors.

BMW motorcycles can have either:

  • Round 10-pin diagnostic port (older/common on BMW MC), or
  • 16-pin OBD2 (on some newer models/markets)

4) Step-by-step: how to get started

Step 1: Identify the diagnostic connector

  1. BMW: look for round 10-pin or 16-pin OBD2.

Step 2: Connect the hardware

  1. Connect the correct adapter cable (if needed).
