Vgate iCar 3 WiFi V2.2 – ELM327 OBD2 Diagnostic (iOS/Android/Windows)

Short Version – Quick Overview

The Vgate iCar 3 WiFi (V2.2) is a compact ELM327-based OBD2 adapter with a stable WiFi connection for iOS, Android, and Windows. Plug it into your car's 16-pin OBD2 port and connect wirelessly to your phone, tablet, or PC to read/clear fault codes (DTC), view live data, freeze-frame, I/M readiness, and sometimes VIN/CALID/CVN (Mode $09). The device supports all common OBD-II/EOBD protocols and features auto-sleep for low power consumption when inactive.

The WiFi variant offers good range (approx. 10–20 m) and also works with iPhone/iPad without special BLE requirements. App support includes Car Scanner, OBD Fusion, DashCommand, OBD Auto Doctor, and more. Perfect for quick troubleshooting, data logging, and monitoring sensors such as RPM, coolant temperature, STFT/LTFT, MAP/MAF, O2 etc. Need more options? See Vgate/vLinker adapters or handheld fault code readers.

Introduction

The iCar 3 WiFi V2.2 is based on the ELM327 command set and communicates wirelessly via WiFi with your favorite apps. It reads generic and many manufacturer-specific fault codes (P/C/B/U), clears the MIL (Check Engine) after repair, and displays real-time data for effective troubleshooting. Thanks to auto-sleep, the adapter can remain plugged in without significantly affecting the battery.*

*Some cars are sensitive to quiescent current. If you are unsure, disconnect the adapter when not in use.

Manual & Installation Guide (WiFi iOS/Android/Windows)

Preparation

  1. Install a compatible OBD app (e.g., Car Scanner, OBD Fusion, DashCommand, OBD Auto Doctor).
  2. Locate the car's OBD2 port (DLC), usually under the dashboard.
  3. Ensure good battery voltage (low voltage can result in "No Comm").

Connect the Adapter

  1. Turn off the ignition. Plug in the iCar 3 WiFi into the 16-pin DLC.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON (engine off) and wait 3–5 seconds.

Pair/Connect via WiFi

  1. Open your device's WiFi settings and connect to the adapter's SSID (e.g., V-LINK_xxx or iCar_xxx).
  2. The password can be empty or, for example, 12345678 / 1234 depending on the batch. If unknown, try without or refer to the manual in the box.
  3. Once WiFi is connected: open your OBD app and select Adapter Type: WiFi. Leave IP/port on auto if the app supports it, otherwise follow the app's recommended default (usually 192.168.xxx.xxx and standard port).
  4. Confirm connection ("Connected") and start scanning PIDs/DTC.

Quick Troubleshooting

  • First, select Auto-protocol in the app.
  • If the app does not find the adapter: check that the phone is connected to the adapter's WiFi (not your home router).
  • iOS: apps may lack internet during connection – this is normal when connected to adapter WiFi.

Important: Some sources describe Bluetooth pairing with "V-LINK" – this applies to BT versions. This product is the WiFi version; follow the steps above.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Does it work on all cars?

On OBD2/EOBD vehicles with a 16-pin DLC (USA 1996+, EU petrol approx. 2001+, EU diesel approx. 2004+). Older/exceptions may lack support.

2. Does it read ABS/airbag?

OBD2 primarily applies to engine/emissions. Brand-specific systems require apps/tools with specific support.

3. iPhone support?

Yes, via WiFi. Open the app and select "WiFi adapter". No Bluetooth pairing is required for this model.

4. Why do I lose internet on my phone?

When connected to the adapter's WiFi, your phone's internet is not used. Disconnect from the adapter to return to the network.

5. Can I leave the adapter plugged in?

It has auto-sleep, but some cars are sensitive. Recommendation: disconnect during longer periods of inactivity.

6. The app asks for IP/port?

Most apps auto-detect. If not, follow the app's recommended standard for WiFi-ELM327.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Limit PIDs: 6–10 simultaneous PIDs provide faster updates.
  • Save before clearing: Document DTC and freeze-frame for traceability.
  • Drive-cycle: After "Clear DTC", monitors are reset – drive them in again before inspection.
  • Stable power: Low battery voltage can prevent communication.
  • Explore alternatives: Vgate/vLinker (BLE/WiFi) or handheld scanners for standalone operation.

Package Contents

Important Notes & Disclaimer

  • Functions depend on the vehicle's OBD exposure and the selected app.
  • Do not clear fault codes without addressing the underlying cause.
  • Do not use the app while driving – safety first.
