- Vehicle components such as EGR valves, DRV valves, fan motors, and flow sensors
- Workshop testing of individual actuators outside the vehicle
Step-by-step manual and user guide
The following section provides a complete and easy-to-understand guide for utilizing all the functions of the QDB-3A. Please read the entire manual before starting work.
General startup
- Connect the QDB-3A to a stable 12V or 24V power source.
- Ensure the unit is in the OFF position before connecting test leads or components.
- Start the unit and confirm that the 1.8” color screen displays the correct voltage and startup menu.
1. Multimeter function – resistance and voltage measurement
- Connect the test probes to the V/Ω sockets as marked.
- Select the desired mode via the MODE dial.
- Measure voltage or resistance – read the value directly on the color screen. Note that voltage must not be connected with incorrect polarity.
2. 2-wire Power Drive Mode
For testing, e.g., ignition coils, solenoid valves, injectors, and EGR valves:
- Connect the component to the correct output according to the diagram.
- Supply the QDB-3A with 12V or 24V depending on the component's requirements.
- Adjust the frequency of the PWM signal with the FREQ ADJ buttons.
- Adjust the duty cycle with the PWM ADJ buttons.
- Check that the parameters on the screen are within the recommended range.
- Monitor the component's function and determine its quality.
3. 3-wire Signal Drive Mode
For example, 3-wire urea pumps, 3-wire ignition coils, and electronic fans:
- Connect the component according to the wiring diagram.
- Supply the QDB-3A with 12V or 24V.
- Adjust the VPP level for the PWM signal between 5–12V according to the component's specification.
- Set the frequency and duty cycle for the PWM signal.
- Confirm on the screen that the values are within the set limits.
- Observe the component's operating condition and verify its function.
4. Step Motor Testing
For idle motor, instrument motor, or headlight motor:
- Connect the stepper motor according to the diagram on the top of the unit.
- Supply the QDB-3A with 12V or 24V.
- Press briefly or hold the left/right buttons to control the motor in the respective direction.
- Assess the motor's operation and function by observing the movement and readings on the display.
5. Signal Output Simulation
For simulating sensor signals from AC pressure sensors, rail pressure sensors, or flow sensors:
- Select Signal Output Simulation in the MODE menu.
- Connect the sensor or control unit to be tested.
- Adjust output values to mimic the vehicle's real sensor data and observe the reaction in the control system.
Safety tips
- Always wear safety glasses when working with vehicle electronics.
- Ensure all cables are properly connected before applying power.
- Do not expose the unit to moisture or extreme temperatures.
- Turn off the unit and disconnect power after testing.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What can the QDB-3A test?
The unit can drive and/or simulate: ignition coils, solenoid valves, injectors (gasoline/diesel), EGR/DRV valves, electronic fans, urea/AdBlue pumps (2-wire & 3-wire), stepper motors (idle, dashboard, headlight), rail pressure and AC pressure sensors, and flow sensors.
Does it work on both 12V and 24V vehicles?
Yes. The QDB-3A has a power supply for 12–24V. Select the correct source before connecting components.
Does the unit have built-in protection?
Yes. It has reverse polarity protection and overcurrent protection. These protections reduce the risk of damage from incorrect connection or overload.
Can I see frequency, duty cycle, and voltage in real-time?
Yes. The 1.8” color screen displays frequency (Hz), duty cycle (%), and output voltage (ADJ OUT/VPP) in real-time, among other things.
What is the difference between “2-wire Power Drive” and “3-wire Signal Drive”?
2-wire Power Drive powers two-wire components (e.g., ignition coil, solenoid, 2-wire urea pump) with adjustable PWM frequency and duty. 3-wire Signal Drive powers 3-wire components (e.g., 3-wire ignition coil/fan/urea pump) with separately adjustable signal amplitude (VPP 5–12V), frequency, and duty.
Can I operate stepper motors?
Yes. In Step Motor mode, you can operate idle, instrument, and headlight motors incrementally left/right with clear directional control on the panel.
Can the QDB-3A replace a full OBD diagnosis?
No. The QDB-3A is an actuator driver and signal generator, not an OBD scanner. It is used for bench/testing individual components and for quick functional checks in the car.
How do I know which PWM values to choose?
Always refer to the component's data sheet/workshop data. Start with a low duty (e.g., 5–10%) and gradually increase while monitoring temperature, current, and behavior.
Can I damage a component with incorrect settings?
Yes, if duty/frequency/voltage are set too high for an extended period. Follow the component's specifications and use protective equipment.
Why am I not getting any reaction from the component?
Check: correct mode (MODE), correct polarity, good grounding, that the voltage source is 12/24V as required, that fuses/cables are intact, and that duty is not 0%.
Can I use the QDB-3A to “clean” or “reset” injectors?
The unit can drive injectors for functional testing. Cleaning/ultrasound requires special equipment – the QDB-3A only provides control signal/load power.
Does the multimeter measure both voltage and resistance?
Yes. In Multimeter Function, you measure voltage (V) and resistance (Ω). Connect test probes as marked and read the display.
Is it possible to simulate sensor signals?
Yes. In Signal output simulation, you can simulate typical signals for AC pressure, rail pressure, and flow to see how the control unit reacts.
Can I test components completely loose on the bench?
Yes. The QDB-3A is ideal for bench testing individual actuators/sensors outside the vehicle.
What accessories are included?
See the Package Contents section below – includes cables, clamps, banana plugs, etc., as shown in the product images.
Do I need special knowledge?
Basic electrical/automotive knowledge is recommended. Read the manual and always start with conservative parameters.
Tips & advice for use
-
Start low: Always start with a low duty cycle and increase gradually.
-
Keep an eye on the heat: Feel the component; stop if it becomes abnormally hot.
-
Correct source: Choose 12V or 24V according to the component's rating.
-
Correct mode: Ensure that MODE matches the connected component (PWM/3-wire/Step).
-
Good ground: Poor ground is a common cause of error – check cables and clamps.
-
Document: Note test parameters (Hz, %, VPP) for feedback in the workshop.
-
Safety first: Wear safety glasses; keep hands and metal away from rotating parts.
-
Shut down correctly: Always finish by lowering duty to 0%, turning off power, and disconnecting the load.
Troubleshooting
-
No display/power: Check power source, polarity, and cable/protection.
-
No component movement: Incorrect MODE, duty 0%, inappropriate frequency, or incorrectly connected leads.
-
Uneven operation: Lower the frequency slightly or try a different duty. Check that the component is not defective.
-
Protection trips: Current too high – lower duty, raise frequency, or use a different load.
