Original KONNWEI KW450 is a full-system scanner for the VAG group – Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT (as well as selected Bentley) – with support for ABS, SRS/airbag, EPB, SAS (steering angle sensor), transmission, instrument cluster, comfort/CAN gateway, battery functions (BAT/battery matching) and much more. It works on 12V OBD2/EOBD vehicles and combines brand-specific VAG diagnostics with general OBD2 engine diagnostics for virtually all OBD2 cars (1996→ USA; ≈2001 petrol/≈2004 diesel in EU).

The KW450 supports VAG protocols KWP, TP-CAN and UDS as well as all common OBD protocols (VPW, PWM, ISO, KWP2000, CAN). With a 2.8″ TFT color screen, fault codes are displayed with explanations, live data in text/graph, freeze-frame, I/M readiness and VIN/CIN/CVN. Vehicle systems such as ABS brakes, automatic transmission, SRS/airbag, EPB service, oil service reset, SAS calibration, central locking, HVAC and more can be scanned, read and cleared – and in many cases also serviced via reset/adaptation according to the support in each control unit.

The device is portable, fast and easy to use with a multilingual menu (EN/DE/ES/RU/PL and others). As an OBD2 reader for other brands, the KW450 can read/clear engine codes, turn off MIL, display live data, and run O2/EVAP/component tests. CE/RoHS certification, low power consumption (~0.77W) and robust construction make the KW450 an affordable tool for both enthusiasts and workshops primarily working with VAG but also wanting a competent OBD2 engine reader for other cars.

KONNWEI KW450 – Full System VAG Fault Code Reader (VW/Audi/Škoda/SEAT/Bentley) + OBD2 Engine Diagnostics

Introduction

The KW450 is a dedicated VAG scanner that covers the entire system flora in VW group vehicles: engine, automatic transmission, ABS/ESP, airbag (SRS), EPB, instrument cluster, comfort/central locking, steering angle (SAS), HVAC, CAN gateway, immobilizer/key (basic functions), AUX heater, etc. In addition, it functions as an OBD2/EOBD scanner for engine/emissions on other car brands. The unit is small, light, and fast to use – perfect as a primary VAG tool or as a complement in a broader toolbox.

Thanks to its support for KWP (older K-line), TP-CAN (Transport Protocol CAN), and UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services), the KW450 can access both older and newer VAG models. For non-VAG vehicles, it handles all 10 OBD modes (Mode $01–$0A), providing complete engine diagnostics with live data, readiness, sensor and EVAP tests, fault code reading/erasing, and MIL reset.

  • Service function missing: not supported in selected ECU/year – use manual menu in cluster or OEM procedure.
  • UDS modules not visible: select correct model year/platform, update firmware if available.

Tips & Advice 💡

  • Save reports before clearing – valuable for recurring faults.
  • Freeze-frame shows the conditions when the code was set (RPM, load, temp).
  • I/M-readiness: run a proper drive-cycle after MIL-reset before inspection.
  • SAS/ESP: calibrate SAS after wheel alignment or removed steering wheel/hub.
  • EPB: always put the system in service mode for pad replacement to avoid damage.
  • Battery replacement: register new battery (BAT) on cars where the ECU uses a charging strategy.
  • CAN-gateway: check installed list/coding if modules have been replaced (reading info is often possible).
  • Stable voltage: use a support charger for long sessions or basic settings.
  • OBD2 on other brands: live data and EVAP/O2 tests help track emission-related faults quickly.
